About this Network

The purpose of TrackerBoard

TrackerBoard is a link-tracking service. It allows you to gather statistics about how effective your advertising is. That way, you can optimize your advertising.

For example, suppose you are advertising the following affiliate link:
http://adboardz.com

You send out your ads with this link in it. This can be any kind of ads: paid solo-ads, safelist ads, a mailing to your own mailing list, a post in an advertising forum, ...

Now, wouldn't it be useful to know how many people actually click on your link ?
Or where do they find your link, if you have advertised it in many places?

With TrackerBoard, you can find out! For all the affiliate links that you set up in your account, TrackerBoard will create an alternative link to use in your advertising, a so-called "tracking link". This tracking link will direct people to the affiliate link that you have set up in your account, but before doing so, it saves information in a log file so that you can look up later when and where your link was clicked.

A tracking link in TrackerBoard looks like:
http://www.trackerboard.com/go.php?id=21

This is the link that I would use in my advertising, instead of my normal AdboardZ affiliate link.

How to set up your first group

TrackerBoard allows you to set up a lot of links. To keep some oversight over your links, you can organize them in groups.

You can name these groups anything you like, but it is good to use descriptive titles that can contain multiple (affiliate) links. For example:

  • I have several websites, so I created a group called "My Sites".
  • I also use several safelists to advertise, so I created another group called "Safelists."
  • I distribute several free reports I wrote, so I created a group called "Info-Marketing"

How to set up a group:

  • Log in to your account and click on the "Groups" button in the menu
  • Under "Add a group", enter a name for your new group, and create the group by clicking on the Go button

Your first group is created. You can add more groups at a later time.
You can also rename a group or delete a group from this same page.

In the next lesson, we will add your first link in this group.

Adding your first link

Once you have set up at least 1 group, you can start adding your links.

  • Click on "Trackers" in the menu
  • Fill out the form. If you make a mistake, you can always edit it later.

Name: A descriptive name for the link you are setting up.
Link: A link that you want to advertise
Description: What the site is about, much like a text-ad
Group: Choose a group from the drop-down menu. Each link has to be in a group.
Show on adboard: Leave this to "Yes".

Your link is created. In a next lesson we'll learn how to use it.

Checking your trackers

Now that you have set up a link, there are 2 places where you can find them.

1. On your personal TrackerBoard page:

Here it is shown for everybody. You can find the link for your personal TrackerBoard page by clicking on "Promote" in the menu. It looks like mine, but with your own username at the end:
http://trackerboard.com/?sponsor=valleyken

2. In your account, click on the "Overview" button.

This page shows all your trackers (links), each in a separate box with links to edit/reset/delete that tracker.

* There are red and green boxes.

  • The green boxes are the trackers that are shown on your personal TrackerBoard page.
  • The red boxes are "invisible" trackers that are only shown on the overview page. They are the trackers where you have chosen "No" for "show on adboard". These are useful for more private links that you only want to show to some people, for example, download links.

* When you click on the Overview button, it shows all your trackers. When you have many trackers, you can select a specific group from the drop-down menu at the top, and it will only show the trackers in that group.

You should at least have 1 tracker box shown on the Overview page to continue with the next lesson.

Managing your trackers

Assuming that you have set up at least 1 tracker in your account:

  • Click on the "Overview" button to see a list of all your trackers

Each tracker has links to manage that tracker: tracker / log/ edit/reset/delete
Here is an overview of what tasks you can perform on a tracker:

Tracker:
When you click this link, it will take you to the site you have set up for that tracker. This is the link that you will use in your advertising, instead of the normal link for the site you are advertising. Your "tracker link" for that particular tracker. We will learn in a later lesson how to use this link.

Log:
This is the main reason for using a link tracker when you advertise. The log for each tracker will show you how many times a link was clicked, who clicked it (IP address, referring site, ...). We will learn in a next lesson how to read and understand your logs.

Edit:
Here you can change the setup of your tracker. You can give it a different name, move it to another group, change the link, ...

Reset:
When your tracker (link) is getting too many hits, you can reset the counter. The log file will also be cleaned.

Delete:
You can remove a tracker, although it is recommended not to remove trackers. If a tracker is outdated, just choose edit to update it with new information. That way, all ads that you sent out for your old tracker will now redirect people to the new link you set up for that tracker.

2) Each tracker also shows:

  • The name of the tracker
  • The group it belongs to. Changing this drop-down menu does not do anything.
  • The number of hits to the link
  • The text description you have set up for that tracker. When you click it, it takes you to the site you have set up for that tracker. When you click this link, it does not record your click in the log file. Compare this with the "Tracker" link that takes you to the same site, but records the click in the log file.

Using your trackers

So far, we have set up some links in TrackerBoard. Now we have to learn how to copy a link to the memory of your computer, so that you can use your trackers in your advertising.

- Choose a link that you want to advertise on your TrackerBoard main page:
http://trackerboard.com/?sponsor=valleyken

- Don't click the link. Just hold your mouse pointer over the link (text description).
- Click the right mouse button. A menu pops up.
- Choose "copy link" from the menu. The tracker link is now in the computer's memory.

- Place your cursor in a place where you can type. This can be in an email, or in a text document, or in the address bar of your browser. Any place where you can type.
- Click the right mouse button again. Choose "paste" from the menu. The tracker link will be inserted at the place of your cursor.

Each link on your TrackerBoard main page has a different, unique "tracker link" associated with it. You can copy them with the technique described above whenever you need one for your advertising.

You can also copy the tracker link from within your account. In the green or red boxes on the Overview page, hold your mouse pointer over the link that says "Tracker". Then right-click, copy, ... and paste where you need it in your ads.

Note: a tracker link always looks like this, only with a different ID number at the end for each of the links that you have set up in your account.
http://trackerboard.com/go.php?id=9

We learned how to copy a tracker link from your account. Now we are ready to use it in our advertising.

You are probably going to advertise your tracker link in many different places, and TrackerBoard allows you to easily check where your link was clicked. This is called split testing. Was your link clicked in a mailing to your list, or in one safelist or another, or in a forum, ...

We do this by using a "reminder" in the tracker link. If your tracker link is this:
http://trackerboard.com/go.php?id=9

To add a reminder to the link, just add &r=.... at the end of the link. Replace ... by a descriptive name for the place where you are advertising it. For example:

When advertising in Herculist Safelist:
http://trackerboard.com/go.php?id=9&r=Herculist

When advertising it in AdvertisingForum:
http://trackerboard.com/go.php?id=9&r=AdvertisingForum

When advertising it to your own mailing list:
http://trackerboard.com/go.php?id=9&r=MyMailing

Later, when you check the log file for this tracker, you will very easily recognize where it was clicked, because the reminder will be shown in your log.

You should not use your tracker link like you copied it from TrackerBoard. Always add a reminder to the link with a reminder about the place where you advertise it. This makes it easier to figure out which advertising sites give the most results. For example, if you find 100 hits in your log file with reminder MyMailing, and only 1 with reminder AdvertisingForum, then obviously, your own mailing list is more effective than the forum.
